Dr. Christian Hinrichs is a medical oncologist and tumor immunologist who has pioneered cell therapies for cancers caused by human papillomavirus, or HPV. His research has shown that specially selected or engineered immune cells can produce deep, durable, and in some cases apparently curative, responses in patients with advanced cancers, including disease that has resisted other immunotherapies. His team is now developing therapeutic T-cell receptors and new engineering strategies designed to make cell therapies more powerful while limiting side effects throughout the body. Dr. Hinrichs founded the Cell Therapy Program at Rutgers Cancer Institute, where he serves as Co-Director of the Cancer Immunology and Metabolism Center of Excellence and Chief of the Cancer Immunotherapy Section.
