Dr. Tiki Hayes is a cancer biologist at the University of California, Los Angeles, whose research explores how genetic differences among tumors influence cancer growth and treatment response. With support from the V Foundation, she is studying poorly understood mutations in EGFR, a protein that commonly drives lung cancer. Using human lung models and large-scale genetic screening, Dr. Hayes is determining how these mutations alter cancer-cell behavior, why some tumors resist EGFR-targeted therapies, and where new treatment vulnerabilities may exist. Her work could help physicians better interpret genetic sequencing results and identify more effective therapies for patients whose tumors carry these understudied alterations. Dr. Hayes is an assistant professor in UCLA’s Department of Molecular and Medical Pharmacology.
