Dr. Melissa Reeves is a cancer biologist at the University of Utah’s Huntsman Cancer Institute who is using her 2024 V Scholar grant to study how the immune system interacts with tumors. Her lab explores why some cancers respond to immunotherapy, treatments that activate the body’s own defenses, while others do not. By mapping how tumor cells and immune cells communicate and organize within a tumor, her work will lead to new ways to boost the immune system’s ability to fight cancer. Dr. Reeves’ research brings us closer to making immunotherapy effective for more patients.
